This short practical course will study flamenco guitar for beginners and will introduce the rhythms of flamenco and common techniques.
Basic knowledge of guitar playing required.

Come along to an informal flamenco show with improvised performances by Antonio Heredia and Francesca Girone! They will be joined by invited students who have participated in the day’s workshops in Manchester. There will also be some sevillanas and fin de fiesta for anybody who would like to join in with a professional singer. Guitar accompaniment from Nick Wilkinson, Paul Gibson, Simon Blackmore and Lawrence Saddoo.
Antonio has been singing professionally since he was 14 years old. He has sung for world class dancers including Belén López, Antonio Canales, El Carpeta, El Torombo and El Choro, featuring in some of Spain’s leading flamenco festivals. He works in the popular tablaos and peñas in his native Granada between these events.
Francesca is a dancer and events organiser based in Mojacar – Almeria. She has worked with Sarah and other Manchester flamenco enthusiasts to bring two of her professional shows to Manchester, performing as well as coordinating. Both Antonio and Francesca are bringing the traditional flamenco ‘puro’, Antonio having been born into a respected gypsy flamenco family and Francesca having studied and performed with gitanos for many years in Andalucia.

This is a tablao style flamenco performance in Didsbury, Manchester. The three dancers are Magdalena Mannion, Yinka Esi Graves and Noemí Luz, co-founders of dotdotdot dance company. Between them they have performed in Spain’s most prestigious venues and tablaos, including Corral de la Morería, Café de Chinitas, Tablao Arenal and Peña Flamenca la Perla de Cadiz.
They are joined by award-winning guitarist and composer Liam Howarth who has been based in Spain since 2010, playing in emblematic places such as Los Tarantos, Barcelona and Peña Torres Macarena, Seville. Also performing is the flamenco singer Anna Colom, who although young has been singing for over 20 years, having studied with Chiqui de la Línea and Mayte Martín, and performed all over the world.
This workshop will look at ways to develop really strong technique and rhythm that can be applied to a range of Palos including Alegrias, Bulerias, Solea and Tangos.
The workshop will be primarily aimed at intermediate players who want to gain more confidence with their playing in a range of styles, but it is open to other players too so please email info@flamencomanchester.com with any questions.

‘Herencia Flamenca’ – Granada flamenco artists return to Manchester with their new show!
We are proud to announce that on Friday 3rd February 2017, some of Granada’s leading flamenco artists will be returning to Manchester for a performance of ‘HERENCIA’ (‘Heritage’), a history of flamenco in the Sacromonte district of Granada. This will include songs that are part of Granada’s heritage – traditional forms of gypsy songs, passed on between generations of families in the Sacromonte district including the families of the artists themselves. Paco Fernandes – Baile (dance)
‘ El Principe Gitano’…one of Granada’s leading male flamenco dance artists and although still young in years he carries a wealth of experience at both national and international level. He combines a mix of technique and strength which he delivers in his own unique style.
Alejandro ‘ El Gambibas’ – Cantaor (singer)
Despite his young age he has a maturity and depth of voice that one can only describe as ‘el cante gitano puro’ (pure, deep gypsy song). Although he lives in Granada, he performs all over Spain and has been regularly contracted overseas in the last few years, especially in London and Brighton.
Manuel Cortes Heredia – Guitar
A popular Granada guitarist, he works regularly with some of Granada’s leading artists in several of the more prestigious Flamenco Tablaos (flamenco venues). His style reflects his maturity and calm persona. A lifelong musician and expert accompanist, he has years of professional experience working with singers and dancers at the highest level.
Francesca Girone ‘ La Gitana Inglesa’ – Baile (dance);
Born in Manchester, she has learnt her flamenco skills in Granada, Jerez and Almería. Aside from her regular flamenco performances in Spain where she resides, she is also a keen and successful Flamenco events organiser.
FIN DE FIESTA WORKSHOPS, DIRECT FROM GRANADA Sat 1 – Sun 2 Oct 2016
We are proud to announce that on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of October, EXCITING FIN DE FIESTA flamenco dance and guitar workshops will be taking place. This is pure, raw, passionate gypsy flamenco from the heart of the Sacromonte District of Granada.
The dance courses are with one of Granada’s leading artists Paco Fernández and includes song and guitar. Paco brings a wealth of experience with him. He is a regular performer in the Granada tablaos, including the leading tablao ‘El Templo de Flamenco’ and has travelled the world with his art. The courses will show students all elements of flamenco (technique, rhythms, interpretation of ‘letras del cante’ and improvisation). He is also a patient and highly enthusiastic teacher who instils confidence in his students.
Alongside these courses, we will be offering a guitar course, delivered by well-known professional artist Manuel Cortes Heredia, who is a regular in ‘El Templo de Flamenco’.
